Gun Safety Can Save Lives

by The Urban News

Gun safety goes beyond just knowing how to handle firearms; it also involves proper storage practices, especially in homes and vehicles.

Buncombe County Justice Services support staff members are available to assist you with your needs.

Speaking to the importance of the issue, Sheriff Quentin Miller said, “I urge everyone in our community to properly secure and store your firearms. Whether it is a child or any loved one who may be around your firearms, please do not put them at unnecessary risk.”

Essential Tips for Gun Safety

Unload when Not in Use: Always ensure firearms are unloaded when not actively in use. This reduces the risk of accidental discharge.

Secure Storage: Store guns securely in locked cabinets or safes. This prevents unauthorized access, particularly by children or individuals who shouldn’t have access to firearms.

Separate from Ammunition: Keep firearms and ammunition stored separately. Storing them together increases the risk of accidents and misuse.

Use Gun Locking Devices: Consider using gun locking devices for an added layer of security. These devices prevent the firearm from being used without proper authorization.

Educate About Firearm Safety: It’s crucial to educate young people about firearm safety to prevent accidents and unauthorized access. Teaching them about the dangers associated with firearms and how to handle them responsibly can save lives.

Gun locks are also provided to the public via the Buncombe County Public Health Mobile Team at community events throughout the year.
