Buncombe County’s Comprehensive Plan will focus on the next 20-year period and will look at the relationships between land uses, infrastructure, and key community services and amenities.
From now until February 13, 2023, you are invited to provide feedback on the draft Plan. Your input in this final phase will be used to further refine The Plan, evaluate levels of support for different concepts, and identify the top priorities. A comprehensive plan is not limited to studying land use components – it can include other areas of focus such as safety, public health, affordability, multi-generational needs, equity, and more.
A successful comprehensive plan will guide growth and address community needs and priorities through a series of objectives, strategies, and goals. It also provides a broad tool to help communities identify how they want to prioritize resources and future planning efforts.
Some examples of questions that The Plan will seek to answer include:
• What areas are best suited for future growth, and what should that growth look like?
• What areas should be preserved, conserved, or protected, and how?
• What kind of environmental, health, safety, and other challenges might the County face, and what are some ways to address those?
• How can equity, multi-generational needs, accessibility, and other issues be addressed?
• Where should recreation facilities be located and what type should they be?
Since 2021 Buncombe County has been working to create its first 20-year Comprehensive Plan, which is a broad planning tool that will be used to guide growth and address community needs and priorities over time.
