WASHINGTON, D.C., October 24, 2023 – Multimedia ‘rock star’, Dr. Rashad Richey received top honors at the Annual Multicultural Media Correspondents Dinner (MMCDTM) sponsored by NBC Universal, Comcast, Democracy Fund, and BIPOCXchange. The event was hosted at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Dr. Richey, TV host of Indisputable with Dr. Rashad Richey on the TYT Network, which is ranked as the ‘fastest growing TV news show in America’ by H.E.G. Evaluation Group, was bestowed the 5th Estate New Media Award, which honors individuals who traverse both traditional and nontraditional media platforms and provide news/opinion content that some would have considered ‘too hot for mainstream’ if not for trailblazers like Dr. Richey. As with any industry maverick, Dr. Richey has created a unique lane, making him the only media broadcaster with shows and commentary platformed on television, linear cable, radio, streaming media, SiriusXM (satellite), social media, and podcast networks simultaneously. Combined, Dr. Richey has roughly 2.3 – 3 million viewers daily, and his podcast, Indisputable, is in the top 5% of most listened-to podcasts in America, according to the LA Monitor. Beyond being a multimedia powerhouse, Dr. Richey is a physics professor and a department chair at Paris Graduate School, a university lecturer at Morris Brown College, and president of Rolling Out, the largest Black-owned media company of its kind in the country.

The exclusive, invitation-only event started with an honoree reception, with signature cocktails provided by Tequila Los Hermanos, and was attended by celebrities, media influencers, policymakers, executives, corporate and advocacy organization allies to honor BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) media industry legends and luminaries whose careers continue to pave the way for the next generation of BIPOC media stakeholders.

Comedian, author, and actress Aida Rodriguez was the host for the evening and entertained the crowd with her witty humor and colorful wordplay. Dr. Richey was joined by three other distinguished honorees for the night, which included TV Broadcast Honoree Kristen Welker, moderator of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Print/Digital Journalist Honoree Phil Yu, creator of “The Angry Asian Man” blog, and Radio Broadcast Honoree Sylvia Banderas Coffinet, CEO of Latino Media.

“I am excited about the work we have done at MMCA. We have broken down structural barriers and will continue to make change in the media space. This is our calling,” said MMCA President David Morgan.  “We are proud to honor Kristen, Sylvia, Phil and Dr. Richey on their contributions and the impact they are making in television, radio and online.”
