When it comes to exercising in the pool, swimming laps is just scratching the surface.

The water offers resistance like strength training, but also relieves the pressure on your joints by supporting your body weight. That makes pool exercises low impact and great for people recovering from an injury or who are experiencing joint pain.

Whether you’re in search of a low-impact exercise routine or just want to get a workout in while enjoying the sunny weather this summer, these exercises are a great way to get your heart rate up and tone your entire body.

What are the benefits of pool exercises? 

Pool workouts are an effective low-impact way to get in strength training and cardio exercise. Because the water in the pool creates resistance, you can perform strength training exercises in the pool without weights or any equipment.

In addition, the buoyancy of the water makes you feel lighter and puts less pressure on your joints. This is why pool workouts are a great way for people with arthritis or joint point, recovering from an injury or dealing with excess body weight to exercise safely.

Finally, you can expect similar results to regular exercise by working out in the pool: improving cardiovascular health, strengthening muscles, toning your body and feeling less stressed.

Yes, you can lose weight doing pool workouts. Whether you’re focusing on cardio endurance by swimming laps, walking or running in the pool, or doing resistance exercises, you can tighten and tone the body while burning calories. Like any form of exercise, pool exercises can lead to weight loss. In fact, when I was on my own weight-loss journey almost 20 years ago, I added in pool exercises (mostly swimming laps) to help with my weight loss (and it did!).
