If implemented, Project 2025 would change the United States from a democratic republic based on representative government chosen by the voters to a fascist-style autocracy along the lines of Victor Orban’s Hungary, Kim Jong Un’s North Korea, and even Vladimir Putin’s Russia.
As part of its goal of ending the right to an abortion, it would ban the mailing of mifepristone through the US Postal Service—as well as removing your constitutional right to buy condoms or use the pill to prevent pregnancy. Project 2025 would also potentially allow prosecutors to imprison women who do have abortions and even apply the death penalty to those women and the physicians who provide them.
Financial Calamity
Project 2025 would also raise taxes for as much as 75% of American families while slashing them for mega-corporations and billionaires. Coupled with Trump’s proposed tariffs of up to 20% on imported goods, which would likely double their cost to consumers, the proposal would plunge the nation into the greatest Depression since the 1930s.
Hurting Veterans, Seniors, and Everyone Else
Project 2025 envisions ending the beneficiary programs Americans have relied on for nearly a century. Republicans have tried to repeal FDR’s New Deal for 89 years, and they think that now is the time to privatize Social Security, replace Medicare with for-profit Medicare Advantage plans, and eliminate benefits that accrue to the veterans who have kept our country safe since World War II.
For nearly 40 years it has been the dream of the GOP to place Social Security funds in the hands of Wall Street investors. The Project 2025 ideologues insist that funds will run out in 15 or 20 years, but rather than require the wealthiest to pay more into the fund, they plan to cut benefits to current and future recipients while allowing banks and investment firms to skim part off the top.
