Get Moving with Asheville’s Hiking, Walking and Rolling Clubs

French Broad River Greenway

APR’s Greenway Walking Club connects community members ages 13 and older through free out-and-back walks, allowing for easy exploration along the city’s greenways. People of all ages, sizes, and cultural backgrounds are welcome to participate. Please register by going to avlREC.com. Come prepared for the weather and for hiking short distances on uneven terrain. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Walks take place at the following locations from 5:30-7 p.m.

  • Wednesday, March 20, 2024 – Glen Creek and Reed Creek Greenways. Meets at Weaver Park (near the pavilion) and walk, out and back, through the Glen Creek and the Reed Creek Greenway.
  • Wednesday, April 24, 2024 – French Broad River Greenway West I. Meets at Carrier Park picnic shelter and walk towards Hominy Creek River Park on the French Broad River Greenway.
  • Wednesday, May 22, 2024 – French Broad River Greenway West II. Meets at the French Broad River Park and walk, out and back, along the French Broad River towards New Belgium Brewery.

Walking to Motown plays your favorite jams while you walk at your own pace on Wednesdays and Fridays from 1-2:15 p.m. at Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center.

Learn technique and develop tools to make walking part of your wellness routine during Walk with Ease. Held at Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center from 10-11 a.m. on Mondays from March 18 until April 29.

Skate Jams take place at Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center.

Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center hosts Skate Jams on the second and fourth Friday of the month. All ages can skate from 5-6 p.m. Ages 16 and older skate from 6-7:45 p.m. Bring your own skates or rent a pair for $3.

Designed by and for nature nerds, Naturalist Hikes are free, short, slow-paced adventures. The goal of each hike is to learn how to identify plants, animal tracks, bird songs, and other natural phenomena in the southern Appalachians. Registration is required.
