Read 2 Succeed Asheville/Buncombe was thrilled to welcome Dantavius Washington from Birmingham, AL for a special celebration with families.
The event took place March 1, 2024 at the Pisgah View Apartments Community Center as part of Black Children’s Book Week.
Activities included reading games, Black History Bingo, bookmark making, face painting, dinner from Blessed Soul Food, music, and literacy kits for each family along with a free, signed copy of Washington’s book, What Should I Be When I Grow Up.
Washington led two read-alouds of his book and spoke with students and family members. Special thanks to HACA, Books Alive! with Ms. Ann, Hilton Asheville Biltmore Park, and all the volunteers who pitched in to make the inaugural Black Children’s Book Week celebration a success.
