Just days away from the 2024 Academy Awards and on the eve of International Women’s Day, Black Hollywood celebrated some of its favorite women at the 17th Annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards. On Thursday, March 7, some of the industry’s biggest talents and creators gathered at Los Angeles’ Academy Museum of Motion Pictures for the annually anticipated event, hosted this year by Grammy Award-winning rapper, actor, entrepreneur and perennial heartthrob Cliff “Method Man” Smith. This year’s honorees embodied Black excellence both on and off-screen: Grammy Award winner and 2024 Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks, six-time Grammy-nominated singer and star of “The Little Mermaid” Halle Bailey, celebrated screenwriter and showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll, and president of original programming for Starz, Kathryn Busby, all received their proverbial flowers as they were fêted by a full house of the industry’s finest.
Emmy Award-winning actress and modern style icon Zendaya took a break from the Fashion Month red-carpet runway that has been the “Dune: Part Two” press tour, giving casual luxury alongside her partner in fashion, Law Roach. Chloe and honoree Halle Bailey were once again a dynamic duo, gracing the red carpet in complementary outfits with coordinating cutouts. Some, like actor-rapper Joey Bada$$ and actor-singer Soraya, brought couple style to the carpet, while Boris Kodjoe proved the apple does not fall far from the tall and handsome tree, posing alongside his son, 17-year-old basketball player Nicholas Neruda Kodjoe.
