Mark H. Robinson

Democrats might be surprised to see Mark Robinson on their primary ballot.

The Sampson County native is passionate about helping others achieve their dreams and should not be confused with Mark Keith Robinson, the Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina.

Mark H. Robinson, one of 10 children, grew up on a farm and learned that you have use what you have on hand to make things work. Robinson, who describes himself as a moderate, is registered as a Democrat and has a master’s degree in business administration. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and joined the Navy, serving 30 years in total. He served 24 years in the reserves, and six years active duty retiring as a captain. He has an MBA from Duke University and worked 15 years at Sikorsky Aircraft in Connecticut.

Now, at 61 years of age, Robinson owns a cotton candy business he purchased 13 years ago as a way to teach his children the value of work. The business owns a trailer that he takes to festivals and other events. These days he’s on the campaign trail with his bus, Bessie Murphy, named after his maternal grandmother.

Robinson says, “I have been blessed as an individual and believe one of my roles in life is helping others achieve their dreams. Over the next year I plan to visit the people throughout the state. My sole purpose is to listen to them.”

He has traveled to about 60 counties, asking folks along the way what North Carolina can do better. He believes that effective leaders are connected with those they lead by showing they are genuinely concerned about them as a person. He is thankful for the family, friends, teachers, coworkers, and people who have encouraged him.
