Flip the Script on Aging

APR has plenty of opportunities for older adults to meet and stay active.

Each May, the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Community Living (ACL) leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month (OAM), a time to recognize older Americans’ contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm the nation’s commitment to serving older adults.

Every president since John F. Kennedy issued formal proclamations asking that the entire nation pay tribute in some way to older persons in their communities throughout the month.

The 2025 theme, “Flip the Script on Aging,” focuses on transforming how communities perceive, talk about, and approach aging. Join Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) in honoring older adults’ contributions, exploring many opportunities to stay active and engaged, and highlighting opportunities for purpose, exploration, and connection that come with aging.
