Asheville/Buncombe Black Elders Engagement Project Activities and Events

Special Events

Valentines Party Sip and Paint – Held Wednesday, February 14 from 4-7 p.m. Come dressed to paint. This event is open to the public. Free. Grove Street Community Center, 36 Grove Street.

Black History: Stumptown Story Night and Dinner – Friday, February 16 from 6-7:30 p.m. Come out and reminisce, tell stories, and learn about the Stumptown Community. Anyone with a familial or other tie to Stumptown is invited to join us for a hot meal and a chance to share pictures, fond memories, and good times. Ages 30 and up. Free. Tempie Avery Montford Community Center, 34 Pearson Drive.

ABBE Luncheon – Saturday, February 17 from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join us for information, community, food, and friendship. Learn about the upcoming elections, voter requirements, preparedness, planning for future ABBE meetings, upcoming events, and more. Free. Held at the TD Bank Building, 200 College Street, 1st floor, Asheville, 28801. Please RSVP to ZaKiya Bell-Rogers at (828) 216-3423.

Winter Day Trip – Thursday, February 22 from 1-4 p.m. Experience the treasures at the Asheville Art Museum and head next door to French Broad Chocolate for yummy hot chocolate. Transportation is free. Cost: $10-$13 for museum ticket. Participants are responsible for their food/drink. Ages 18+. Please register at www.avlREC.com. Harvest House, 205 Kenilworth Road.

Soul Food Supper – Thursday, February 22 from 6-8 pm. Co-sponsored by the East End Valley Street Neighborhood and Stephens-Lee Alumni Association. Come hungry! Free. Stephens-Lee Community Center, 30 Washington Carver Avenue.

Black Legacy Month Program – Tuesday, February 27 from 11 a.m. – 1:30 pm. Join us for lunch, poetry, and storytelling honoring Black Legacy with Ms. Penny Meacham. Learn about Asheville Buncombe Do the Write Thing and the Community Reparations Commission. This program is sponsored by Buncombe County. Free. Pre-registration…
