They say when one door closes, another opens. Well, summer’s sadly, steadily on its way out, and autumn’s about to come knocking. To be frank though, for fashion’s sake, it’s a relief. We can finally get back to actually styling an outfit rather than just throwing over whatever has us melt the least. And because the coming season’s increased variety in clothes extends to shoes, too, of course, we’re here to get you up to speed on 2024’s fall footwear trends.
In conclusion of scanning endless feeds, infinite FYPs, and numerous September Issue pages, we’ve found that the year’s fall footwear trends are best grouped into categories. Then, with the help of StockX, we proceeded to define these and present you with some of our favorite examples of what turned out to be around and about three major types:s
2024’s Fall Footwear Trends Are Threefold
Slender
A tendency we’ve made mention of before, slimmer shoes continue their conquest of feet – slowly but confidently outpacing bulky, stompy styles in the process. Be they sneakers, slippers or Chelseas: the year’s fall footwear trends have us opting for slighter silhouettes, often in lively colors or classic neutrals, of mixed materials, with stitching, for added intrigue in texture.
Gorp
Chunky or not, gorpcore will never die and always come in handy for its practical and aesthetic properties. A certain outdoorsy-ness is more than welcome in wet, colder months, so we’re happy to say that 2024’s fall footwear trends are not devoid of real-world applicability – and even happier to point out that we’re way past the point of just dorky hiking boots, and have long heralded an age of well-designed, highly functional shoes.
Dressy
There appears to be an underlying, long-unspoken consensus that we’re dressing up again, and our fall footwear trends are further indicative of that. Probably part of the lineage that’s bred old money cosplay and a desire for luxury that pushes beyond logos, the days of clunky, techy, rubbery tennis…
