by The Urban News

Ava DuVernay’s riveting adaptation of Isabel Wilkerson’s Caste.

Drawing inspiration from Isabel Wilkerson’s book, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents, Ava DuVernay explores the roots of racism in the United States, providing a compelling and emotional account of the impact of caste on individuals and society as a whole.

The film takes us into the life of Isabel Wilkerson, played by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and her journey to write Caste. She is driven by the shooting of Trayvon Martin, and seeks to find a connection between the persecution of Jews, the caste system in India, and racism in America.

Official trailer for Origin.

Origin is a remarkable film that blends elements of biography, documentary, and fiction. The film stars Jon Bernthal as Wilkerson’s husband, Niecy Nash-Betts as her cousin, and Blair Underwood as her editor.
