Katharine McPhee appeared in a somber mood during a visit to LAX airport in Los Angeles Friday, shortly after it was revealed her son’s nanny unexpectedly passed away.

The “American Idol” alum, 39, was seen in photos obtained by the Daily Mail dressed in comfortable grey sweat pants, a white T-shirt and a blue and white button-down shirt.

“David [Foster] and I have had a horrible tragedy in our family and at least one of us need to get back home to our family.”
