Jacob Elordi will take Andrew Garfield‘s place in Guillermo Del Toro‘s Frankenstein adaption at Netflix, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Elordi will star in the project alongside Oscar Isaac, Christopher Waltz and Felix Kammerer.

Del Toro was first confirmed to write and direct the project in March 2023. Following initial news that he was eyeing Garfield for the role, Netflix announced on Sunday that Elordi would take the titular role.

Elordi’s casting news comes on the heels of a busy season for the actor. Following his role as Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, he also starred in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn. Prior to the two projects, he was also known for his role on HBO’s Euphoria, where he played Nate Jacobs.

Frankenstein will be Del Toro’s second feature for Netflix, following his Pinocchio adaption, for which he won the Oscar for best animated feature at the 2023 ceremony.

In addition to his two films for the streamer, the director also created the anthology series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities for Netflix. Outside the Pinocchio win, he took home best director and best picture at the 2017 Oscars for The Shape of Water.

Isaac is currently best known for his work on the Star Wars sequel trilogy and Ex Machina. Goth rose to prominence as a horror star for her work on Pearl and the upcoming installment in Ti West’s horror trilogy, MaXXXine. Waltz is best known for his role in Django Unchained and Kammerer for All Quiet on the Western Front.

Deadline was first to report the casting news.
