Western Carolina University’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebration will begin Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, with its annual Unity March.
at the fountain in the center of campus.
Those looking to participate are invited to attend a poster-making session that morning at 10 a.m. in the Hinds University Center multipurpose room. The Unity March, sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, will begin at 11 a.m. at the fountain in the center of campus.

Monday, Jan. 22
2:30 p.m. in the UC Theater – “Self-Care in Advocacy for Equity and Inclusion: Sustainable Models for Leaders.” This event will be hosted by Enrique Gomez, associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and Physics.
5:30 p.m. in the UC Raleigh room – “Civil Conversations Series: Social Equity” is a civil dialogue event with the topic of social equity. Participants will join in a moderated conversation with others with a variety of points of view. It is hosted by the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning.
Tuesday, Jan. 23
11 a.m. – Tabling: “Women Behind the Movement,” hosted by Greek Student Engagement and Development, will take place near the fountain.
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fountain – Tabling: Voter Registration, hosted by the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning.
5:30 p.m. in the UC Grandroom – Leadership reception: David Walton, director of the Global Black Studies program, will host a keynote presentation titled “The Civil Rights Movement as a Youth Movement.”

4 p.m. in the UC Theater – “Music Behind the Movement” hosted by WCU’s Inspirational Gospel Choir
Thursday, Jan. 25
