Billionaire heiress and fashion favorite Ivy Getty — the great-granddaughter of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty — has filed for divorce from her husband of four years, actor Tobias Engel, has learned.
The couple were wed in a private ceremony in December 2020, we hear, before having an opulent, storybook wedding in November 2021, that was breathlessly covered in the pages of Vogue.
A source tells us that the couple has a prenup in place, protecting her famed family’s massive wealth.
“Obviously, being a member of the Getty family, Ivy is careful about legal entanglements,” says a source.
A court docket seen by has a lawyer for Getty filing for divorce in January 2024. It’s listed as “contested,” meaning the parties did not settle with a mediator before Getty filed.
Pictures of Engel also appear to have been deleted from the socialite’s Instagram feed, (though he still appears in some carousels of pics from their luxe wedding).
The nuptials kicked off with a mod-themed “British Invasion” pre-wedding party at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, Calif., with performances by Mark Ronson and Earth, Wind & Fire.
The pair were wed at San Francisco City Hall by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and “Queen’s Gambit” star Anya Taylor-Joy was a bridesmaid.
The fete was attended by numerous elites including Gov. Gavin Newsom, San Francisco Mayor London Breed, Vanessa Getty, Princess Olympia of Greece, fashion designer Wes Gordon, Mimi Wade, Vogue veteran Hamish Bowles, Fletcher Cowan and filmmaker Christian Coppola.
Getty wore a jaw-dropping mirrored, custom John Galliano gown for Maison Margiela Haute Couture. Her veil was embroidered with walnuts in honor of her grandmother Ann — who raised Ivy in the famed Getty mansion and grew up on a walnut farm.
