Ms. Carrie Everett, representing as Miss Johnston County, took the pageant by storm.

“It is easy to see how the judges fell in love with Carrie,” a statement from the Miss NC page read. “…she is dynamically confident, kind, witty, talented, and has the kind of superstar personality one can only wish for in a titleholder and sister.”

Everett is a vocal performance major at NC Central University (NCCU), an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and University) in Durham, NC. For the talent competition, she sang “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” from the Broadway musical Dreamgirls.

Everett, a rising sophomore, promoted her community service initiative during the competition, alluding to her mandate of “We Need Equity to Build Communities.”

“When I registered to compete this year, I only had $40 in my pocket,” said Everett. “That is the reality of many young women in this country. I believe in the Miss America Opportunity, what it has done and what it continues to do for many young women like me. With this title, I am empowered and ready to facilitate a new culture of equity within this brand.”

As the new Miss North Carolina, Everett will receive $20,000 and a car for the year, in addition to $3,500 in scholarships for other awards she won during pageant week. She will represent North Carolina in the Miss America pageant.

David Clegg, President and Chairman of the Miss North Carolina Organization Board of Directors, said this about Everett’s win, “The crowning of Carrie Everett marks another opportunity to present to the state the unique experience, talents, and civic commitment of this exceptional NCCU student.”
