Henderson County Hosts MLK Events

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Black History Collective of Henderson County, NC will honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for the entire month of January 2023 with the following events.

Exhibit: Dream Big! The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

King’s “I Have A Dream” speech and educational literature for all ages to read about the Civil Rights legend.

Display at the Henderson County Library Main Branch, 301 North Washington Street in Hendersonville, NC. The display will be up for the entire month of January 2023.

Dr. MLK Jr. Exhibit at the Boys and Girls Club of Henderson County will be located in the front lobby, 1304 Ashe St., Hendersonville, NC.

Dr. MLK Day of Service Project

Saturday, January 14 – We are collecting hygiene and canned items from 1–3 p.m. that will go to the Hendersonville Rescue Mission.

23rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast

Monday, January 16 – The Dr. MLK Breakfast will be held at 8:30 a.m., at the Technology Education & Development Center at Blue Ridge Community College. “Life’s most persistent and urgent question: What are you doing for others?” is the theme addressed by keynote speaker James E. Ford, Executive Director of CREED (The Center for Racial Equity in Education).

“Dr. James E. Ford is an award-winning educator and consultant on issues of equity in education. He is the principal at Filling the Gap Educational Consultants, LLC, and was appointed by Gov. Cooper to serve as a North Carolina State Board of Education member, representing the Southwest Region. He was formerly Program Director at the Public School Forum of North Carolina, an education think-tank and policy advocacy organization.”

Tickets are available for purchase at Community Foundation of Henderson County, 401 N. Main St., Suite 300 in Hendersonville. Adults: $15; Children 12 and under: $5

Cash and checks will be accepted. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door on the day of the event. Food service begins at 8:15…
