School supplies were distributed to families during the Book Bag Giveaway Event.

Members of District Three’s Mud Creek Missionary Baptist Association partnered with the members of the Highland Church, Asheville Parks and Recreation’s staff, and community members on August 19, 2023 to provide school supplies to families during the Book Bag Giveaway Event.

More than 250 book bags with school supplies were provided to students who also enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and sodas. Students were able to get their faces painted and tour and play in the newly renovated Dr. Wesley Grant, Sr. Southside Center.

“We are committed to serving the community and helping families to be successful this academic year. We understand that there is an achievement gap, and we want to provide the tools that students need to learn and develop this academic year,” said District Three Developer Rev. Leslie A. Hines, Pastor of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

“Research demonstrates that strong relationships between schools, families, and community members can positively affect student achievement and outcomes.” (Hanover Research, 2022)

Mud Creek Baptist Missionary Association’s District Three comprises ten churches primarily located within the Asheville area that are actively working to improve the quality of life for its members and the surrounding community.
