The Asheville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, has completed its selection process for its 2023 Scholarship award program.
This award goes to deserving high school seniors seeking higher education in a college or university.
After a competitive evaluation process, two students were selected. Tia Irby was awarded a $3,000 scholarship, and Salvador Lopez was awarded a $2,000 scholarship.
Irby is a graduating senior at Asheville High School. She is the daughter of William and Tara Irby. She has a weighted grade point average of 4.25. She has been accepted and intends to attend New York University and major in Drama & Dramatic Arts. Tia plans to become a working actress and eventually create an organization that allows other black kids a way into the industry.
Lopez is a graduating senior at School of Inquiry and Life Sciences at Asheville. He is the son of Delfino Lopez and Carina Garcia. He has a weighted grade point average of 3.2. He has been accepted and intends to attend the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and major in Nursing and minor in Ethnic Studies. Salvador plans to become a Family Nurse Practitioner to close medical disparities faced by BIPOC members.
