In late April the MLK Association honors area high school and middle school students who have demonstrated leadership, intellectual, and community engagement skills.
Applicants must be Buncombe County residents enrolled in a high school in their senior year. Criteria for selection includes character, community involvement, and scholastic achievement. The awarded scholarship is for the upcoming academic year, and it must be used that year. The MLK Association cannot honor a “Gap Year” due to annual budgeting requirements.
In addition to receiving recognition awards, up to three students each year are awarded a scholarship to the university of their choice. View process and criteria information at mlkasheville.org/activities/youth-awards-celebration.
