Loro Piana was the official uniform supplier for Team Europe at this year’s Ryder Cup, which took place at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome from September 29th to October 1st. The Ryder Cup, the world’s biggest golf competition for the non-golfers among us, came to Rome, Italy for the latest edition, a fitting locale given the Ryder Cup’s own prestige and storied history in the golf world.
The Ryder Cup began in 1927 with a match between American and British golfers. Initially, the US dominated, but following a hiatus during World War II, it resumed in 1947, with the new addition of Irish players. By 1979, continental European golfers joined, creating “Team Europe,” and giving the event its contemporary outline.
The Ryder Cup has seen intense competition, with legendary golfers like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Seve Ballesteros, and Tiger Woods all leaving their own marks on the event. Recent matches, like the “Miracle at Medinah” in 2012 and Team Europe’s 2018 victory added to its rich history.
Since 2016, when Loro Piana first designed Team Europe’s official uniforms, the Ryder Cup has served as a testing ground for state-of-the-art fabrics in the challenging environment for top-level athletes.
