The Christine Avery Learning Center is excited to announce the launch of its Music Is Life program, set to begin on April 17, 2025.

This all-day event will take place at the Asheville High School football field from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. With lunch included, the day promises to be a celebration of music, rhythm, and youth empowerment.

Headlining the event will be the highly acclaimed North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Sound Machine Drumline and Majorettes, who will perform live and lead an interactive clinic for youth ages 7-18. This unique experience is designed to inspire young minds through the power of music and movement, allowing participants to engage with world-class performers and gain hands-on experience in marching band and majorette performances. Young attendees will have the opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals and discover the joy and discipline of marching band and majorette activities.

“We’re thrilled to bring this exciting program to Asheville, as we know how impactful music and performing arts can be for youth development,” said Marcus Joyner, director of Music is Life and an accomplished drummer. “The Music Is Life program not only provides creative outlets for young people, but it also fosters teamwork, discipline, and self-expression.”

The event is open to the public, and all are invited to join in celebrating the arts, music, and community spirit.

Music Is Life takes place Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Asheville High School Football Field, 419 McDowell Street.

Youth grades 2-12 are encouraged to participate. The cost, which includes lunch and instrument, is $10 per child; free for current Christine Avery Learning Center students.
