Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s book is primed to hit shelves July 9 at the same time prominent media outlets — including the New York Times, the New Yorker and the Economist — have called for President Biden to drop out of the race.
We exclusively reported earlier this year that Whitmer — seen as a possible replacement for Biden — inked a seven-figure book deal with Simon & Schuster.
The book, “True Gretch: What I’ve Learned About Life, Leadership, and Everything in Between,” is about to drop, and a source tells : “Her book deal gamble seems to have paid off.”
The insider added, “Her team, and her publisher, are now likely to do everything possible in the next two weeks to try to make Gretchen Whitmer a household name, starting with her book.”
The insider added: “The book was almost entirely predicated on the possibility that Biden might collapse in the debate and need to be replaced in July.”
But so far Whitmer — a co-chair of the Biden 2024 campaign — is standing by the president.
She posted via X on Monday: “If we want to protect our fundamental freedoms and democracy, then we need to re-elect @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris.”
However there are growing calls in the party to “draft Gretch,” as her constituents fondly call her.
Other reported potential Biden replacements being bandied about besides Whitmer include Vice President Kamala Harris, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
