“Real Housewives of Potomac” star Mia Thornton is getting real about her decision to file for divorce from estranged husband Gordon Thornton last fall.
“I want to say my breaking point was when he publicly decided to shame me,” the Bravolebrity, 39, exclusively tells ’s “Virtual Reali-Tea” podcast, explaining that disparaging remarks made by Gordon, 71, in October 2023 pushed her to make their split permanent.
“And I said, ‘OK, this is not what we’re doing.’ And I filed. Yeah, I did because I’m like, ‘Let’s go ahead and get this clock rolling,’” she adds. “I just don’t want to be a part of it.”
Mia and Gordon — who share son Jeremiah, 8, and daughter Juliana, 6, while she parents teen son Joshua from a previous relationship — separated in June 2023, but didn’t publicly announce their breakup until that September.
One month later, Gordon gave a crass interview to TMZ, divulging that he gave Mia a hall pass to sleep with other men to “satisfy” her needs.
“I know there’s going to come a time when I probably won’t be able to satisfy all of her needs,” he said in October 2023.
Gordon further claimed to the outlet that he told Mia that she could “find what [she] need[ed] elsewhere” — while also noting that he was frustrated by her desire to make an exit from their 11-year marriage.
“What really aggravates me through all of this, is that I’d given her permission, and yet she still chooses to sneak around, chooses to lie, chooses to continually change her story about what’s going on and why she’s leaving me,” he said in part.
