Named after alpha, the first letter in the Greek alphabet, Generation Alpha is the first to be born entirely in the 21st century and the third millennium. The term “Generation Alpha” was coined by Australian social researcher Mark McCrindle in 2005. While studying the changing demographics of Australia, he realized there was a need for a term to describe the children who were being born to Gen X parents.

Members of Generation Alpha are usually the children of millennials and some older members of Generation Z. They are also called the iGeneration or the Global Generation, because they are the first to grow up with smartphones, social media, and artificial intelligence.
They are expected to be the most educated, diverse, and technologically savvy generation in history. They are also likely to face many challenges, such as climate change, economic uncertainty, and social polarization.
Some of their characteristics include being creative, adaptable, entrepreneurial, and socially conscious. They are influenced by their Gen X parents, who are more involved and protective than previous generations.
