The next meeting has been rescheduled for Monday, January 22, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center Banquet Hall, 87 Haywood Street in downtown Asheville. This change is due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.
The Commission will begin to take a more comprehensive look at recommendations from the Impact Focus Areas (IFAs). The next few months will include multiple IFAs presenting and discussing connected recommendations with the commission. The draft recommendations, and the deep-dive recommendations from the December 4, 2023 meeting can be viewed at PublicInput.com/avlreparations.
For the January 22, 2024 meeting, the Reparations Commission will receive a preliminary report on the Cease the Harm audit, which is one of the immediate recommendations approved in December 2022. This audit covers the internal operations of the City of Asheville and Buncombe County in the five impact focus areas: Criminal Justice, Economic Development, Education, Health & Wellness, and Housing. In addition to these areas, the audit covers Equity, Internal Workforce, and Legal in regards to equity.
